Local Government Traineeship Pilot Program

The GTNT Group and LGANT Local Government Traineeship Pilot Program has been extended to include school-based apprentices and trainees.

The pilot program has been funded by NTG Department of Education and Training (DET) though the Industry Skills Advisory Council NT (ISACNT). The funding will cover all costs of the pilot program; councils will only need to pay the wages for the trainee or apprentice.

The pilot program has the opportunity for 25 traineeships in:

  • Cert. III in Business
  • Cert. III in Local Government
  • Cert. III in Horticulture
  • Other Cert. III qualifications can be arranged by negotiation with GTNT

Councils may employ more than one trainee or apprentice, either full-time or school-based, under this pilot program. The trainee or apprentice can be employed directly by the council or GTNT can be the legal employer for the duration of the program.

GTNT group will provide full support to trainees and councils throughout the NT.

SUPPORT FOR APPLICANT/TRAINEE/APPRENTICE
  • Thorough interview process to ensure quality candidates are selected for the program
  • Facilitate introduction to industry stakeholders and employers
  • Support offered throughout interview and recruitment process
  • Support with on-boarding procedures like induction and application of pre-requisite licences (as required)
  • Mentoring and monitoring support to the trainees throughout the duration of the program
  • GTNT will encourage and assist the trainee with goal setting
  • GTNT will manage referrals to additional support services like counselling and mental health services (as required)
  • GTNT will provide ongoing mentoring and support to workplace supervisors
  • Peer-to-peer networking opportunities will be arranged for trainees to connect and enhance their learning experience together

SUPPORT FOR EMPLOYERS/SUPERVISORS
  • GTNT will carry out recruitment and on-boarding processes
  • GTNT will manage the program to ensure each partner delivers on their respective elements
  • GTNT will provide regular reporting throughout the program period
  • GTNT will provide mentoring and monitoring support to the employers throughout the duration of the program
  • GTNT will schedule any off the job training bookings, manage RTO queries and liaise with the council/host to minimise the time required from the Supervisor
  • GTNT will provide ongoing mentoring and support to workplace supervisors
  • GTNT will carry out workplace inspections to ensure the workplace meets he safety standards and legislative requirements
  • GTNT will market and promote the program within our networks and media channels
  • If GTNT is the legal employer they will manage payroll and superannuation for your trainees or apprentices
