As part of the Northern Territory’s (NT) Closing the Gap implementation plan, the NT Government committed to sharing information on Closing the Gap and the shared responsibilities. To fulfil this commitment, the Office of Aboriginal Affairs have developed an online training module. LGANT encourages local government council staff to undertake the training.

The training module covers the history of Closing the Gap, the National Agreement, implementation of the National Agreement, including priority reforms and socio-economic targets, and the reporting and monitoring of the framework.

Introduction to Countering Foreign Interference eLearning

The Introduction to Countering Foreign Interference eLearning module has been designed to raise awareness of countering foreign interference across all levels of government, as well as the education, research and industry sectors and is now available on the NTG MyLearning platform.

Australia remains a target of sophisticated and persistent foreign interference activities directed towards all level of government, academia, industry, the media and communities. Our best defence against foreign interference is to arm people who are possible targets with the information they need to recognise and report it.

Completion of the training will raise awareness of countering foreign interference and includes a knowledge quiz. The key outcomes of the module are:

  • define foreign interference
  • outline Australia’s approach to countering foreign interference
  • describe the role of the National Counter Foreign Interference Coordinator and the Counter Foreign Interference Coordination Centre
  • explain how to counter foreign interference in at-risk sectors
  • explain how to report foreign interference.

To access the online training module, go to MyLearning and search for Introduction to Countering Foreign Interference. Registration as a non-NTG employee is required.

Climate Risk Training and Engagement Package for councils

A key finding in the Climate Council’s Neighbourhood Issue: Climate risks and costs to Councils report is that while climate change is an immense challenge for all levels of government its impacts are felt most acutely at the local level.

To support councils to raise staff awareness of climate risk management a suite of training and engagement tools has been developed by the Local Government Association of South Australian (LGASA) councils.  LGASA have kindly allowed LGANT to share these resources with our members.
