The LGANT Awards celebrate the outstanding contributions of individuals, councils and organisations that support and strengthen local government across the Northern Territory.
The awards recognise long-standing service, leadership, innovation and excellence across the sector, highlighting the people and initiatives that make a positive difference in local communities. The current awards program includes:
The LGANT Long Service Awards recognise individuals who have demonstrated dedication and commitment to local government in the Northern Territory.
Awards are presented in recognition of service milestones and acknowledge the valuable contribution made by elected members, local authority members and local government officers.
Service is recognised in five-year increments commencing at 10 years of service.
Nominations can be submitted using the online nomination form.
Councils nominating multiple Long Service Award recipients should download the spreadsheet template and upload the completed document as part of their online submission: LGANT Long Service Award Nomination Template.
The Circular Economy Award recognises council programs, projects or partnerships that demonstrate leadership in sustainability, waste reduction and circular economy principles.
The award celebrates innovative approaches that reduce environmental impact while delivering social, environmental and economic benefits to communities.
Open to LGANT member councils and associate members.
Nominations must be submitted through the online nomination form and include supporting information addressing the criteria.

The LGANT Long Service Awards honour the dedication and loyalty of individuals who have significantly contributed to local government in the Northern Territory. Whether as an elected member, local authority representative, or council officer, these awards celebrate those who have served their communities for 10 years or more. Their ongoing commitment helps strengthen local governance and deliver lasting benefits to the regions they represent.
Current and former elected members have completed 10 or more years of service. Service will be recognized in five-year increments (10, 15, 20, 25 or 30+). Service does not need to be continuous and includes elected members on community government councils prior to 2008.
Elected members can be nominated by their council by downloading and submitting the Elected Members Long Service Award form.
The form must be certified to be correct by the council Chief Executive Officer to which the applicant is or was elected. In the event the applicant served on another council not previously affiliated with the current one, the council Chief Executive Officer should seek written confirmation from an appropriate source prior to certifying the information on this form.

Current council officers who have completed 10 or more years of continuous service within local government in the NT. Service will be recognised in five-year increments (10, 15, 20, 25, 30+). Service does not need to be continuous and is calculated from the commencement of employment with any NT council, including service prior to the 2008 NT council amalgamations.
Council officers can be nominated by their council by downloading and submitting the Local Government Officer Long Service Award form.
The form must be certified to be correct by the council Chief Executive Officer to which the officer is currently employed. In the event the officer worked for another council, the Chief Executive Officer should seek written confirmation from an appropriate source prior to certifying the information on this form.

Current local authority members who have completed 10 or more years of continuous service. Service will be recognised in five-year increments (10, 15, 20, 25, 30+).
Councils can nominate those who have served 10, 15, 20, 25 or 30+ years for any NT local government body by downloading and submitting the Local Authority Member Long Service Award form.

LGANT is committed to recognising and awarding those public sector employees from the NT and the Australian governments who have demonstrated a true partnership approach in working with councils, treat the local government sector with respect and go the extra mile in engaging with councils for the benefit of communities. It is expected that nominees will have worked with a particular council, with a number of councils across the sector, or within a region.
The three spheres of government in the NT have a long history of collaboration including, but not limited to, roads, aged care, waste management and emergency management.
Nominations will be accepted from member councils for NT or Commonwealth public servants who have worked with councils in the previous 12 months.

LGANT is committed to recognising and awarding local government councils for their innovation and collaboration in the circular economy. These efforts reflect a growing commitment to creating more sustainable communities, reducing waste and fostering partnerships that drive meaningful environmental progress.
