LGANT manages 2,000 km of local roads on behalf of its member councils, the majority of which are on Aboriginal land. This road network is funded through the Roads to Recovery program and Financial Assistance Grants.
The Northern Territory Government and individual councils are also responsible for roads in the Northern Territory.
Each local government association, including LGANT, pays a fee to ALGA for Austroads membership. As part of this membership, councils in the Northern Territory get access to all Austroads publications and technical specifications. To leverage this membership, councils can create an account directly with Austroads.
