As part of its inter-government relations, LGANT supports cooperation between the three spheres of government to ensure good governance which promotes the wellbeing of Territorians overall. To do this, LGANT is committed to strengthening and formalising its relationship with the Northern Territory Government through partnership agreements and projects.

LGANT recognises that the needs of local communities are best addressed when local government is accepted as an equal partner by the other two spheres of government and has shared responsibilities in the development of relevant policies and programs that affect the local government sector.

LGANT has a strong relationship with the Department of the Chief Minister and Cabinet’s Local Government Unit (LGU) who, among other things, administer the Local Government Act 2019. Visit the LGU website for more information.
